We are avid anglers and in fact, it's fishing that brought us to Belize in the first place. We chose Steppingstones as our home because of the fantastic variety of unspoilt fishing right on our doorstep. So who better to organise the fishing trip of a lifetime for you than people who came to live 6000 miles away from their home in England just for the great fishing! Unlike many resorts, we really understand the needs of the angler, and we will work with you and your guide to ensure that you get exactly the kind of fishing you want. Our fishing package is designed for two anglers. Depending on the weather conditions and the judgment of the guide it may be possible to take an additional two non- anglers on our 25ft fishing boats should members of your party want to come along for sun bathing, snorkeling etc. Lure fishing, fly fishing and bait fishing are all catered for, though you need to bring your own tackle with you. All our guides are government qualified, and are our personal friends. They will work very hard for you. The programme for each day will be decided the evening before and will of course depend on the weather. At Steppingstones, we have a unique location with access to both fresh and, naturally, salt water fishing, so even if it's windy we can find some excellent fishing for you. Habitats on offer are the reef, flats, lagoons, mangrove lined creeks, rivers and of course our own shoreline. Most of the places our guides will take you to barely see an angler from one week's end to the next, so the fish can be very obliging, and not only that, you will be fishing in some of the most beautiful environments on earth. Whilst fishing, you can expect to see dolphin, turtles, manatee, and if you are lucky, even whale shark. Amongst our top target species are permit, tarpon, jacks of all varieties, snook, bonefish, wahoo, kingfish, barracuda, snappers a-plenty and of course tuna. For detailed information on target species, methods and tackle click here. The package programme consists of: Day One Arrive at Belize International Airport. Domestic flight to Placencia Airport. Our guide will meet you at the airstrip in his boat and you will have a journey of around 40 minutes across the lagoon, through the mangrove and along our lovely coastline. Arrive at the Steppingstones dock. Complimentary drink on arrival, settle in to your cabana. (A basic selection of food will be ready in your kitchen, this can be supplemented from our frozen food menu.) Laze away the afternoon, or tackle up and explore our beautiful shoreline. Welcome dinner at the big house with your hosts, Chris and Sue Harris and, where schedules permit, your guide. Decide your fishing programme for the next day. Early to bed. ![]() Dawn - looking towards Great Monkey Caye from Treetops Cabana Your guide will collect you early in the morning, and you'll be out fishing all day, returning to Steppingstones as the light fades. For most species we recommend catch and release, but it is certainly acceptable for you to bring home the odd fish for your supper - your guide will prepare it for you. Sometimes the guide will want to keep a fish for the village - discuss this with him at the beginning of your day. Barracuda is especially good, and is prized highly in Belize, snook too is delicious, as of course is tuna. Evening of day six, three course dinner with your choice of wine or local beer. Lying and boasting about fishing permitted! Day Seven Depart for home, by boat to Placencia Airport. (Should you wish, you can exchange a day's fishing for a day's private guided tour exploring inland - maybe to see a Mayan site, a wildlife reserve, or to go tubing through an underground cave system - at no extra charge).
